Brenda Haughney
President


Brenda was awarded an MBA from Wingate University and her BS in Mathematics from the University of Memphis. She also holds certifications from WorldatWork, the Society of Human Resources Management (SHRM) and the Center for Applied Cognitive Studies (CentACS). Brenda has over twenty-eight years of experience working for such companies as Coca-Cola Bottling Co. Consolidated Provident Health Systems, Methodist Health Systems, National Bank of Commerce, and Union Planters National Bank. She served as an executive in human resources and/or operations for these companies prior to founding Powers & Associates in 1999. In its twelve-year history, the consulting firm has successfully completed projects for corporations and non-profits ranging from two to two thousand employees. Powers & Associates has twice been honored to be one of the finalists for Charlotte's Ethics in Business Awards. 
Brenda is also an active volunteer in various church ministries and community non-profits.

Tom Haughney
Vice President


As co-founder of Powers & Associates, Mr. Haughney has been instrumental in developing key service components as well as managing many of the internal functions of the business. While assuming a supporting role in most client projects and relationships, Tom's primary client focus centers on all aspects of the recruitment process, leading searches, making hiring recommendations, delivering outplacement services and coordinating employment search services. He has over 30 years experience in sales, operations management, business development, and individual and group counseling. Tom received his BS degree in education, history, and political science from the University of Memphis. Mr. Haughney has extensive experience in behavioral science and is also certified in the five-factor model of personality assessment. He is actively involved in community employment search initiatives and has assumed leadership roles with various non-profits, including Habitat for Humanity and the Bethlehem Center of Charlotte. Tom has held management and sales/ marketing/ business development positions with such organizations as SmithKline Beecham, The Kroger Company, The Southland Corporation, and Litton Industries.
